She was born Jennifer Chan on September 16, 1958, in Harbor City,
California. Her father, Harry, was a Chinese stockbroker. Her mother,
Patricia, was a schoolteacher. When she was just 6 years old, her
parents got divorced. A terrible time for Jennifer, her mother
took her, 3 other siblings, and 3 other stepsiblings and they moved
to British Columbia, Canada. Jennifer had to keep adjusting to the
new schools because of her family's constant nomad-like tendencies.
She was a pretty quite child in school up until the day she attended
St. Stephen's College in Missouri, where she studied theater. She
had to pay for her tuition, so she submitted articles to magazines
and earned her money by winning 'honorable mentions' through writing
competitions.
Then she moved on to a college in Los Angeles instead of New York.
Her sister Meg Tilly starred in the hit "Body Snatchers".
She started with with small roles such as being an extra on
"Days of Our Lives", and then she gained herself a continuing
rol on "Hill Street Blues" in 1984. That same year, she signed for
the role of Shannon Winters on the sitcom, "Shaping Up", afterward
making appearances on "Remington Steele", "Cheers," and another
continuing role on "It's Gary Shandling's Show".
She was in her first film, "Moving Violations," when she was 27. From
that point on she starred in several movies such as: "He's My Girl,"
"Rented Lips," "Johnny Be Good, "High Spirits," "Let It Ride,"
"Far from Home." After which she was finally acknowledged for her
role as Blanche "Monica" Moran in "Fabulous Baker Boys." Since then,
Jennifer Tilly has appeared in popular movie such as: "Liar Liar,"
"Bride Of Chucky," "Music From Another Room," and "Made In America."
